June in Darwin is all about the smell and the sound, the smell of rubber on asphalt and the sound of V8’s tearing around the track at Hidden Valley Raceway for the 2019 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, formerly known as the V8 Supercars Championship. This year the Championships take place between 14th – 16th June.
An incredible history that dates back to 1960, Supercars delivers an exhilarating spectacle of motorsports-led entertainment to its army of passionate fans, and with crowds now often in excess of 160,000 it continues to grow in popularity.
It is not just the Supercars drawing the crowds to this event thanks to the other class of vehicles in the schedule. The Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup is on from the 14th – 16th of June and features the ever-popular Porsche 911 race car.
Aussie Racing Cars is the largest of the race categories. The massive field of “pocket rockets”, which due to their small size enables breathtaking 4 wide braking and slipstreaming battles, provides a thrill for the crowds unlike any of the other classes of race cars.
Making its return for the 2019 races, HQ Holden racing will feature a field of local and interstate drivers. These battles are done the old school way, with near stock standard HQ’s running a 3.3 Litre 6-cylinder engine in a 3-speed manual.
Improved Production and Commodore Cup are also back for 2019, with a huge grid taking to the track. This door to door racing provides plenty of thrills as the large range of interstate competitors battle it out in the 4-race program.
There are few bigger names in the Australian music world, and this particular big name has been rocking audiences for 40 years. With an unmistakable voice and library of iconic songs, the one and only Jimmy Barnes will be performing on the 15th of June.
Adding to the superb line-up of entertainment talent, The Veronicas will be belting out hit after hit on the 15th after the racing. Australian pop icons, The Veronicas boast a platinum record in the USA, nine top ten hits in Australia. Two ARIA Awards and 500 million + streams of their music.
On the other extreme of the music stage, legendary motocross rider Robbie Maddison is returning to his homeland for a one-off Australian show. Well known for his outrageous stunt of riding his motor bike across water and even down the face of monster waves, Robbie will be at Hidden Valley Raceway and special appearances across Darwin City.
Of course with so much going on in Darwin during this time you won’t want to miss a day, so you’ll be needing somewhere to stay, and of course the Mercure Darwin Airport Resort and Novotel Darwin Airport have the perfect accommodation options for you.
