Giddy up revelers, the Darwin races are here!
As the date gallops ever nearer, anticipation for the Northern Territory’s biggest social and sporting event is growing. Flights are being booked, colourful hats acquired and the jockeys and their steeds are diligently training.
One of Australia’s most anticipated and esteemed racing events of the year, preparations for the Darwin Cup are already under way. With eight races, spanning a month-long period - from July 6th to August 7th - the Darwin Cup Carnival is not one to miss.
Tourists and locals alike flock to Darwin each year for the extravaganza that is the Darwin Cup Carnival. The Darwin races are unlike any other racing event in the Southern Hemisphere, packed with exciting race-day action, world-class food and drink offerings, and colourful, eye-catching fashion.
With only only a month to go, tickets are selling fast! Previous spectators at the Darwin races have numbered 40,000; this year is set to be another one to remember.
An important celebration in Darwin for both locals and tourists, the Darwin Cup is the time of year when everyone comes together, united in a mutual love of sports, fashion and some good old-fashioned fun!
With the theme for this years Darwin Cup, “Carnival of Colour”, there’s no doubt in our minds that this event is going to be a vibrant, lively and joyful affair. You’ll want to get your most colourful glad rags out of the cupboard for this!
Famed for its dirt track that transforms into a dance floor as soon as the days races are done, expect to dance the night away at this years Darwin Cup Carnival.
With a host of on and off the track social events, there’s plenty of time for horsing around. The month-long carnival closes with the Qantas Darwin Turf Club Gala Ball, held at Skycity Darwin - only the largest outdoor gala ball in the Southern Hemisphere and a night guaranteed to be packed with glitz and glam!
Headlining the event this year is none other than the award-winning, Darwin born-and-bred, singing sensation, Jessica Mauboy. For tourists, this social event is a true showcase of the best of Darwin hospitality and entertainment.
It’s also the perfect night to get everyone in the mood for the Carlton Mid Darwin Cup – the final day of races and an Australian public holiday. What more could you want?!
With so much going on, you’ll want your Darwin accommodation to be as close to the festivities as possible. Luckily for you, both Mercure Darwin Airport Resort, and Novotel Darwin Airport Hotel, are only 10 minutes from Darwin Turf Club, where all of the races will be held.
That means you’ll waste absolutely no time getting to and from the action each day! And there’s all the more time for a tasty cocktail at our pool side bar before the days races begin…
With all of our race-enthusiasts in mind, we’ll be offering live music and great food and drink specials across the Carnival period.
We will also be televising the Carlton Mid Darwin Cup finale on the public holiday (Monday 6th August) for those not attending track-side. And as we know both pre and after cocktails are equally important at an event such as this, so our pool bar is set to be open - with live music and a relaxed atmosphere - to get you in the mood at all times of the day.
