Dry season is festival and event season in the Northern Territory’s Top End. Throughout July, we get a bit giddy just thinking about how the Darwin region comes to life to celebrating sport, Indigenous culture and the distinctive Territory lifestyle. We hope you can join us in the fun!
Darwin Cup Carnival | July – August | Darwin | darwinturfclub.org.au
Join us trackside for a punt and some bubbles as the Darwin Cup Carnival hits town. What we love most about the carnival is that it brings a unique Territory flavour to the age-old tradition of horse racing, culminating in the NT’s biggest sporting event. We’re especially pumped for the main event – the Carlton Mid Darwin Cup on 7 August – which draws a crowd of more than 20,000 locals and visitors to the Fannie Bay Racecourse to enjoy heart-stopping racing action and phenomenal people watching in fashions on the field.
Meet the Curator | Museum and Art Gallery of NT | Darwin | magnt.net.au
The story of arts and culture in Darwin and around the Northern Territory is long and deeply ingrained in the community. During the school holidays, the curators at the Museum have a special program available where they bring objects, specimens and artefacts from the collection stores and out into the gallery spaces. This is a rare opportunity focussed towards young learners and not to be missed. More details are available on the Museum and Art Gallery website. (Image - Museum and Art Gallery of NT)

We’re packing our swags, donning our Akubras, and heading south for the Katherine Show and Rodeo later this month for a taste of the real Aussie outback. Top of our agenda? The spectacle of the rodeo as skilled horse riders battle it out in campdraft and show jumping competitions, and cowboys and cowgirls contend for prizes and prestige. We’ll be bringing the kids too – there’s heaps of fun in store for them too with lawnmower races, wood-sawing competitions, animal petting and all the action of sideshow alley.
